Eco-Benin
Eco-Benin aims to enhance human development. The organisation does so by managing natural resources properly and using them for eco-tourism and ecological development.
Eco-Benin is active in 3 areas:
- Advice on sustainable or eco development: conducting feasibility studies on ecological development; ceveloping a legal framework to help local authorities manage the biological resources in their area; ecological development initiatives in the food, health and territorial management sectors.
- Planning and management of eco-tourism areas: building local expertise in community-based territorial management; drawing up plans for the development and management of eco-tourism areas; designing and implementing local projects to promote eco-tourism.
- Social empowerment and training: developing environmental education/communication; such as workshops on marine biodiversity; promote (in)formal education on eco-tourism; integrating poverty reduction and gender into natural resource management projects.
As a partner of Join For Water, Eco-Benin will first of all carry out a diagnosis and draw up an activity plan. In the municipality of Grand-Popo in the department of Mono – in the very south of Benin – Eco-Benin will work on the restoration and improvement of water-related ecosystem services. The ecological recovery of the mangroves in this municipality is also part of this. Eco-Benin will also take on the organisation of the local management groups around citizen participation and advocacy.
