The Universidad Nacional de Loja is a research and teaching centre for higher education in the southern region of Ecuador. It trains professionals who are committed to sustainable development processes in the region and the country.

The university plays a role in:

  • Setting up mechanisms for the management and dissemination of information and knowledge about the basin;
  • Capacity building for actors involved in the management of water resources and their services;
  • The promotion of policies and management plans of the river basin, tailored to the rights, needs, knowledge and practices of local communities;
  • Promotion and research actions;
  • The systematisation of information;

In these activities, the Universidad de Loja applies nature-based solutions and a rights-based approach.
