Forging partnerships for water: Join For Water’s collaborative Impact in 2024

2024 has come to a close and we can reflect on a year of meaningful milestones and shared achievements in our mission to protect water resources and promote equitable access. Across Africa, Join For Water organized events, dialogues, and symposia, gathering stakeholders to tackle urgent water and environmental challenges.

Milestones Across Africa

In Benin, we celebrated 30 years of impact, tracing our journey from Protos to Join For Water. A commemorative event highlighted our work in water governance, sanitation, and agricultural water management. Discussions on local governance of wetlands underscored the importance of collaboration with government agencies to sustain agricultural canals.

In Uganda, a National Dialogue on wetlands highlighted the country’s pressing environmental issues. With wetlands shrinking rapidly due to urbanization and population growth, stakeholders called for stronger legislation and collaborative restoration efforts to preserve these vital ecosystems.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we hosted a forum in Kinshasa on water resource management. Stakeholders shared best practices for mobilizing efforts toward sustainable water use and preserving ecosystems, emphasizing the need for national cooperation.

In Mali, we focused on land restoration and gender inclusion. A symposium in Bamako showcased successful community-driven water management efforts, particularly in the rice plains of Farabah. Join For Water shared key insights from its land restoration efforts, highlighting the critical role of gender in land and water conservation. Recognizing that women have traditionally been central to community activities related to water, land, and life, the program has embraced gender inclusion as a valuable asset integrated into its approaches to promote equity and sustainability.

Looking ahead: building platforms for collective action

As we move into 2025, Join For Water remains committed to strengthening partnerships and expanding collaborations. We aim to create platforms across Africa that unite organizations, local governments, and communities around shared goals: protecting water resources, ensuring equitable access, and promoting sustainable use. Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities and ensure a future with equitable and sustainable water access for all.
