Join For Water is strengthening its commitment to water and sanitation across Africa by becoming a member of AfWASA, short for African Water and Sanitation Association. Our membership is It is a key step in advancing our mission to ensure sustainable water management and protect freshwater ecosystems.
Sustainable access to quality water and adequate sanitation
AfWASA has been in existence for more than 40 years and brings together all actors in the water and sanitation sector. AfWASA’s vision is a world in which everyone has sustainable access to quality water and adequate sanitation.
The organisation focuses primarily on capacity building, regional and international partnerships, technological innovations and policy influencing, and attaches particular importance to the development of female leadership and the role of young people in the WASH sector. Through AfWASA, Join For Water gains new opportunities to influence policy, collaborate with important institutions, exchange knowledge and be a visible player.
AfWASA ICE 2025: Learning and networking in Kampala
Our membership follows our participation in the 22nd AfWASA International Congress & Exhibition, held in February 2025 in Kampala, Uganda. Under the theme “Water and sanitation for all: a secure future for Africa,” the event brought together over 3,000 stakeholders from across the continent to explore innovative water and sanitation solutions.
Join For Water was represented by Marion Iceduna and our Ugandan partners JESE and NRDI. Our team joined sessions on wetland restoration, climate adaptation, and water governance; core themes of our work in Uganda and beyond.
‘The training and networking opportunities provided valuable insights into Africa’s water challenges,’ – Benon Bwalhuma, NRDI
The congress provided new perspectives and ideas for our programming especially around community engagement and resilient water solutions.
Why AfWASA matters for Join For Water
AfWASA serves as a critical platform for policy engagement, technical collaboration, and strategic visibility. As members, Join For Water will benefit from:
• Access to regional policymaking through bodies like the Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW)
• Opportunities to collaborate with institutions including the UN, AfDB, and World Bank
• Knowledge exchange through workshops and technical working groups
• Increased visibility and funding opportunities for water-focused initiatives
“Joining AfWASA expands our reach and allows us to co-develop solutions with like-minded partners,”— Marion Iceduna, Join For Water
We plan to engage in AfWASA’s climate working group and explore launching a new group focused on natural water resource protection.
