In Burundi, sanitary and hygienic conditions at schools often leave much to be desired. Our partner AVEDEC continues to work towards a sustainable solution.
Recently, the 400 pupils of the local primary school in Rurabo, Bubanza province, were able to start using the new toilets. Boys and girls can use separate blocks. The toilets are of the EcoSan type, where the faeces are collected in a separate container at the back. After minimal treatment, these can be used as fertiliser.
Join For Water was able to count on its partner AVEDEC for the infrastructure works, and the project received the support of the municipal council and various agencies of the national government.
SDG6: clean water and sanitation for all
This is important news for the local press and allows Join For Water and AVEDEC to highlight their commitment to concrete solutions in the field of water and ecological, healthy and sustainable sanitation: a step closer to achieving sustainable development goal SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation for all.
