Get moving and protect Uganda’s wetlands

Are you or your company ready for a challenge that is good for you and the planet? Register your action for the Move For Water Challenge and contribute to the protection of wetlands in Uganda. With your kilometres, you will help families access clean drinking water and support the protection and conservation of wetlands, the natural sponges of our earth.

I’ll start a campaign right away

Why participate?

Staying active while doing something good for wetlands and Ugandan families = win-win! Put on your walking shoes, hop on your bike or go for a run. Alone, with friends or with your team. Get sponsored and make a tangible difference for water and climate.

What are wetlands?

Wetlands are areas where the soil is saturated with water. They are vital for people and nature. They provide drinking water, retain water during floods, release water during dry periods, filter pollution and store enormous amounts of carbon. Healthy wetlands are essential for a liveable future. Join For Water is actively working to restore and preserve wetlands in Uganda.

How does the Move For Water Challenge work?

We challenge everyone to cover as many kilometres as possible, either alone or in a team.
You choose whether you walk, run or cycle, in your own environment and at your own pace.

Extra benefit for participants

When you register, you will receive a unique Wetland Guide, packed with information about wetlands and tips for beautiful nature spots in Flanders where you can get involved.

Want to know more about Uganda?

Ambassador Yemi Oduwale and supporters Sofie Page and Thomas Standaert visited the wetlands in Uganda a few years ago, together with Join For Water. In the video, they explain why wetlands are so important for people and nature.

Taking the first steps for water

We took the first steps of this Move For Water Challenge together with around 50 participants in the Assels, a nature reserve near Ghent. On 12 October 2025, we discovered this wetland and learned more about the usefulness and protection of wetlands in Flanders and Uganda. Both Join For Water and Natuurpunt provided explanations in words and images along the route and enthused the participants. Our ambassador Yemi Oduwale was also there! See the photos below.
