Module 5: maintenance of the infrastructures
This module deals with the different aspects of maintaining a GFS. The first chapter explains why a system should be maintained and what is meant by "maintenance". Also it opens the question who should be involved in maintaining a GFS. The second chapter presents the involvement of the local community in the construction of a GFS. Giving several steps in which a community can get involved and explaining how to make the community involve. The final chapter provides a detailed overview of the maintenance: setting up a water committee, a regular and an occasional maintenance network and a maintenance task calendar. A short description of frequently encountered problems ends the chapter.
