Building local democracy through natural resource interventions
An environmentalist's responsibility: a poliy brief
This policy brief provides natural resource policy makers and practitioners with an approach for evaluating how their policies and projects can support the emergence and consolidation of local democracy. This brief is organized into three parts. The first outlines the 'institutional choice and recognition' framework for analyzing the prospects for the consolidation of local democracy in the context of natural resource decentralization reforms around the world. The second identifies and discusses cross-cutting lessons drawn from the case studies. The final part provides detailed elaboration of the summary recommendations.
